This photo was taken along the French Broad river in Asheville, North Carolina. The season was late Fall, and I was standing in the middle of the road setting up this shot when a mid-70s convertible Eldorado (top-down) drove slowly by. Sitting on the boot were three young ladies in sleeveless diaphanous gowns. I’m serious, and this is probably the only time I’ve used the word diaphanous. Their skin was Bernadette Peters White. It was cold, and they had loosely attached, homemade wings. I will always be thankful that I was not alone, and that two of us saw what must have been the Festus Fairies.
